About us
The Ferranti Mountaineering Club started in 1955 as a subsection of the Ferranti Recreation Club in Edinburgh, but has been independent for a number of years. (For more details of the club's background see History.) Originally set up for workers at the Ferranti plants in Edinburgh, we now welcome anyone who has an interest in the hills. We have a weekend meet once a month on average - see Meets for more details. Prospective new members are welcome to come on one or two meets prior to joining the club. The membership subscription year starts on January 1st and the subscription for 2011 is £18 per person. This includes club membership of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland. We are members of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, the Scottish Rights of Way Society and the John Muir Trust. For more details of these organisations see under Links. The club has an extensive collection of maps and guide-books, which can be loaned to members from the club librarian. Limited equipment can be borrowed from the Club's equipment officer. It is always advisable to carry a map, compass, spare food and spare clothing and in winter an ice-axe and crampons are indispensable. Responsibility for safety is solely your own as the Club cannot be held liable for any accident, loss or damage to anyone who attends a meet. It is also important to note that the Club operates on an informal basis and so cannot provide formal training, instruction or supervision. "Do nothing in haste; look well to each step; and from the
beginning think what may be the end." |
